Sam Gram #33

      1.  Ed Hainline has been the
Keeper of the Birthdays for Oregon for some time now, and has volunteered to do
the same for Washington.  If members of your club would like to have their
birthday shown in The Northwest Pathfinder, contact Ed at   edhainline@yahoo.com
He will list the month and the day of your birthday, not the year.  Once
the information is in Ed’s hands, no further action on your part will be
necessary.  Ed will take it from there.

      2.  AVA has vested in me the authority to approve club and state association challenge books.  This authority was reaffirmed in a recent conversation with Candy Purcell, AVA’s
Acting Executive Director.  If you or your club try to have your book approved by AVA,  headquarters personnel will refer you to me.  Recent events notwithstanding, by agreement with Candy, the standard will be
1.  The book must have the statement “Approved for use of the IVV
Certification Stamp by the NW RD.”  This statement must be on the lower
front of the book.
2.  There must be a color representation of the award on the front of the book.
3. The “AVA Fun, Fitness, Friendship” logo must be centered at the top of the front of the book.  This must also be in color.
4.  The statement “This is not an AVA National Special Event Program.”  must be included on the front of the book.
5.  Someplace on the book, you must explain the rules for the challenge and the cost
of the book.   In this regard, you must have the following information:
a.  “As you complete AVA events, place the IVV certification stamp in the slot that corresponds to the category requirement which the event fulfills.  You must complete and carry a start card.”  You may require that participants pay for credit or that they may walk for free.
b.  “The last sale of the booklet will be on December 31, _____.  If you have already purchased a book, you may still complete it past the last sale date.”
c.  You may require only one use of the IVV certification per calendar year.
d.  Cost of the book.
e.  Where to mail the book when the booklet is complete. 6.  The IVV
logo must be on the bottom right of the front of the book.

 There will be an
agenda item regarding state and local challenges.  This will be supplied to
you (as will all of the agenda items)  as soon as possible after December
7, 2011.

I am leaving for
California in a matter of hours for the Thanksgiving holiday and will return
home on November 27, 2011.  I can still be reached by cell (503)
369-9906.  If you send email traffic, I may not be able to respond –
especially if there are attachments to your emails.  I will make every
effort, however, to clear my email traffic every day.

Happy Thanksgiving
everyone!  There are two post turkey trot events that should be a great
time.  I am very thankful for each and every club and volkssporter in the
  Northwest Region.
