The Border Crossers held its inaugural Snails Walk on Wednesday May 6.  It was a soggy beginning for the group so only a few showed up.  With recent emphasis on the health aspects of walking, the club is trying to encourage people to walk just for the health of it.  A person's walking speed is not as important as taking the first step.  Because the weather was so wet and windy, the group walked only a short distance, and then went to a local restaurant for a healthy lunch.  One couple brought their dog Katrina, a hurricane dog adopted shortly after the hurrican of the same name in Louisiana.  The group will continue to meet every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Hemlock and Kessler by the restrooms.  There will be someone there with a Snails Walk sign so anyone can find the group.  For more information, contact Sam Korff at korffs@wildblue.net or phone at 503-728-0400.  Everyone is welcome to participate at their own speed and level of fitness.

The Border Crossers met last night.  The following items were discussed:

1.  Earth Day is April 18.  We have paid the fee and will man the booth as we did last year.

2.  The Pi Day walk is March 14.  We have contacted Mik Hendrickson; they are expecting us.  They will provide us with a start/finish table and chairs in the Antique Mall.

3.  We will host a walk at Westport, OR on eith the 8th or 15th of Aug.  It will start at the school/church and walk to the Ferry.  Load onto the Ferry and walk on Puget Island and return.

4.  We now have a Seasonal Event in Winlock, WA.  It is a pleasant walk with two 5 km loops around a former poultry center for Washington.  It will start May 31.

5.  We are considering sponsoring an 18-hour walk in Vancouver over Memorial Day 2010.  We are looking for another club to co-sponsor the event at the VA Center.
